Psalm 19:1-4
[1] The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth and their words to all the world.

Psalm 19 is one of those psalms I don’t miss a day to meditate on, every time God allows me to do so. It just makes me feel happy and guided.

You see, some time ago, when I used to think of instructions, decrees and commandments that God pointed out in the Bible, I often thought of them as rules that kept me from having fun. But now with God’s grace, things are completely different.

When I think of those instructions, decrees and commandments, I no longer see them as rules, but rather, something that guides me and shows me which way I should go and which path I should take. It revives my soul, it makes me wise, it brings joy to my heart, and it gives me insight by showing me how I should live. It warns me and points out all the dangers I am subject to, if I choose not to obey it, but if I choose to obey it, then it becomes a great reward in my life. It makes me realize how sinful I was and am, when I see how holy God is.

But on this reflection though, I am just going to meditate on the verses 1-4 of Psalm 19

So from the time God created the universe and all the things therein, He longed to talk to His creation. Unfortunately, because of our disobedience to God’s command, things didn’t work the way He had planned it to be, and as a result, we lost that pal to pal communication we had with our Father.

In Genesis 2, the Bible tells us that when God created mankind (Adam and Eve), long before they committed sin and then banned from the paradise, He would talk with them just like you and I can talk now with each other.

Well, despite that incident which was provoked by the devil, it did not stop God from revealing himself to his creation. And one of the ways He does it is through nature. It is by seeing God’s creation that we learn about His power and how short minded we are. We are actually finite in knowledge. God’s understanding is beyond measure.

All our surroundings are filled with/by an unimaginable display of God’s creation. Just looking up to the heavens, it gives dramatic evidence of His existence, His power, His love, His care, His mercy. We have to be out of our minds to assume and think that all of this just happened by chance.

Throughout the Bible, Scripture tells us how God manifested himself in many ways to mankind. Sadly, because of our sinful nature, it has blinded us to the point where we are no longer able to see the wonderful works of God that some of us witness on our day to day basis.

Our ignorance is so much that, we would rather believe that the world is a result of a big-bang, than to acknowledge that it was created by God himself. We would rather think that we are descendants of monkeys than to accept with pride and dignity that we are God’s creation.
That’s sad. How can someone be so smart and stupid at the same time?

Just think about it for a moment, how can a bomb put things together?
The perfection of God’s creation is not and it will never be a random thing. It was something strategically well thought of in advance and we can see how well coordinated it is.

It is clear then that the world is not a result of the big-bang theory, as many may think.

  • It reflects the works of someone who even before the world was, He is.
  • It reflects the works of someone whose knowledge is beyond knowledge.
  • It reflects the works of someone whose understanding is beyond understanding.
  • It reflects the works of someone whose wisdom is beyond wisdom.
  • It reflects the works of a mighty and powerful God, who by nature, our small minds will never ever comprehend.

So it doesn’t matter how hard some people, fooled by the devil, may try to say otherwise; one thing is for sure, the works of God will always speak out by themselves.

As a proof of that, and in addition to his word, which is the Bible, we can see how in Psalm 19:1-4 God reveals himself to us through the work of his hand, as it says: “The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth and their words to all the world.”

How amazing is our God!
Look, He didn’t just make the things we see and feel, and the things we cannot see, for making sake, but He made them beautiful and life giving. The air for example, you don’t just feel it, but it also refreshes and allows you breathe.

When He made eatable things, He also gave taste to them. When He made flowers, He also added good fragrance to them. When He commanded men and women to multiply through sex, He also added pleasure to it. And if you look to the sky, no cloud’s shape is the same from the previous day. And no two snow crystals produced every winter are ever identical. That is the kind of God we serve, full of new ideas every day and never obsolete.

But we as humans, fools and misled as we can sometimes be, we use science, which was given by God so we can understand His creation, to disapprove His existence. How sad indeed!

So people, delight in God. He is our loving Father. For out of love, He blessed us with life. Out of love, He sent His only begotten Son to die for us.

In Isaiah 43:10-11 God confirms that love for mankind, and wanting to save us from sin, misery and condemnation, He chose His witness who would later guide us to everlasting life, when He says;

“You are my witnesses,” declares the LORD, “and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me. I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior.”

So in this verse we see with clear evidence, how God the Father, prepares the way for the salvation of mankind by choosing the Israelites. Israel’s task was to be a witness, telling the world who God is and what He has done.

Today, as believers in Christ, we must all share the same responsibilities of being God’s witnesses. We must live according to God’s guidance so that unbelievers may see His reflection in us.

Let us pray

Thank you Lord for your instructions, decrees and commandments and for willingly wanting to guide our lives. It is through those Laws that allow us to see how sinful we are.

Please cleanse me from all my hidden faults. Keep your servant from deliberate sins! Don’t let them control me. Then I will be free of guilt and innocent of great sin. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer, In Jesus Name, Amen.
