And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. 2 Corinthians 9:8 (NLT)

This is a personal testimony of how God the Father, through His Son - our Lord Jesus Christ, with the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, saved our 5th daughter during birth with the umbilical cord tied around her neck.

It happened in April of 2013 when my wife was pregnant with our 5th daughter Isabella. She appeared to have a normal pregnancy and everything seemed okay. When the due date came for her to deliver the baby, there was a delay.

According to the doctors, her delivery date was supposed to be by April 3rd, however, she experienced no contractions for over a week or so. The doctors recommended inducing labor on the 8th of April, so she was subsequently admitted to the hospital. They administered labor inducing medication, but even with that, it took 2 more days before she started to dilate. She experienced contractions, however, her body took longer than usual to be ready. Then when she was finally taken to the delivery ward, the nurses reported complications with the baby.

Meanwhile, I was at home with our 4 other children. I prayed with the kids as usual before going to bed. Then at about 3:00 a.m. I was awoken from my sleep by something that touched me on my right arm. I woke up startled brushing my arm when I felt something soft fall on it. When I looked around, I couldn't see with clarity, so I got my cell phone to provide light to see what caused me to wake up. Then I saw that it was a small frog close to the bed. It was a pale grey color and it did not move when I shone the light on it.

So I wondered how in the world this creature got inside the house if all the windows were closed and we have screens. I approached the animal and I tried to grab it. To my surprise, it didn’t try to escape either. So I took it in my right hand and spoke to it, saying:

“I have you in my power. I have the power to squeeze you and kill you right now. So tell me, who sent you?”

The creature just looked at me intently without moving or trying to escape. So I said, “If you are a messenger of the devil sent to harm us, right now I am pleading the shed blood of Jesus over me and my entire family. I rebuke you in the name of Jesus.” So as I was about to squeeze it to kill it, “I heard a voice saying, “Why do you want to be a killer? Why do you want to dirty your hands with this animals’ blood? Just take the creature outside of the house and drop it out there.” So that’s what I proceeded to do.

I went to the front door and carried it outside. While outside I said to the creature, “I don’t know why you are here, but if it is God who sent you for a specific reason, may He save you from any danger and may the Lord reveal to me what I should do.”

I slowly dropped him on the grass. It was not dark outside, since we have a bright front door light, which allowed me to see everything when I dropped him on the grass.

And guess what? the frog disappeared right before my very eyes and I saw it no more. Now, please note that I have lived in this house for the past 15 years, and I have never seen or experienced a frog coming into or near the house. It was a very unusual event.

So I returned inside, locked the door, rechecked all the windows, bathtubs and saw that there was no way anything could have come inside from the outside.

After that, I wondered what to do. It came to mind that I should call the hospital to find out how my wife was doing. They informed me that she was in the delivery ward, but the baby was not born yet. They didn’t provide any details either. I became very anxious about what was going on with my wife and the baby, and then I felt prompted to pray, so I went before the bed and knelt.

While kneeling, I had no idea what I should pray nor how, when suddenly a thought came to my mind to pray the rosary, which I did not know how to pray on my own, because I usually prayed it with my wife.

I then remembered I had an app on my phone called Laudate. In there I found that they had the Rosary and Chaplet of Divine Mercy. So I proceeded to pray the rosary corresponding to that date. I prayed with so much anguish in my heart that I began to weep. But after praying, I experienced so much peace in my heart that I fell back to sleep instantly.

Later, I woke up at 5:00 a.m. and prepared my kids for school. I arrived at their school around 7:00 a.m. when I got a call from my wife at the hospital saying that she just had a baby girl. I asked her how the baby was doing and she told me that, though she had problems delivering the baby because of the umbilical cord that was wrapped around her neck, she was alright, with no problems at all. I thanked God for His mercy and I then asked her what skin color the baby had and she answered that she was pale and grey. It was exactly the same color as the frog.

So I began to think things through. I realized that maybe the frog woke me up so I should pray and that the prayer helped to save my baby. Then I began to wonder why it had to be a frog to wake me up.

Was the frog an indication from God telling me to pray? And why a frog? Then I realized that if it were a snake, centipede or scorpion, I would have been too frightened to pray. If it was a lizard, I wouldn’t pay attention to it because there are many lizards in the house every day. I realized that it had to be something unusual and harmless to grab my attention and move me to pray.

Right there and then, I realized that it was through the Blessed Mother’s intercession that our baby was saved, safe and sound. It was a miracle.

I have heard of many stories of babies not surviving due to the umbilical cord wrapped around the baby’s neck or even if they survived, many have had major complications.

So I encourage you, if you ever feel prompted to pray, do so, as you never know how many lives you may be saving.
